In December 1994, Parents of Technologically Dependent Children of Ontario (PTDC) opened its first Kids Country Club in a rented facility in southwest London and in 1998 opened the new permanent home at 87 Chestnut Hill in London, Ontario. Funded by the provincial government, the facility services families in Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Lampton, Essex, Perth, Huron, Grey Bruce and Kent.

Following the success of the London facility, PTDC's opened it's permanent facility in Cambridge, Ontario in February 2003. The new home enhances respite services for the Central West Region of the province.

The Kids Country Club assists families of children in the community who have become medically fragile or technologically dependent as a result of illness, accident or a genetic condition.

It offers the children a safe, secure, stimulating and fun out-of-home experience, complete with health care professionals, but without the hospital or institutional setting. For the families, it provides support and a little relief from the demands of day-to-day caregiving. It also offers parents peace-of-mind, knowing their child is well cared for within their own community.

What's happening at the London home?

  • Children love their Kids Country Club visits! Respite visits help the children and their families by providing new stimulation, lots of friendly faces, and a little break from the day-to-day routine.
  • The London facility provides clinical placement opportunities for nurses, as well as students enrolled in health / caregiving studies at the local colleges and universities.
  • We also offer valuable training in the care of high needs children, for caregivers, family members and community personnel.
  • Our Executive Director is also involved in teaching a Complex Nursing Care course at Fanshaw College, as well as providing a Legal and Ethical workshop for Nurses working with complex care children.
  • The Kids Country Club is forever grateful to the London IODE Chapter for all the help and support they've given. Children, families and caregivers alike enjoy the beautiful back yard gardens, complete with a gazebo and an awesome nature area. While many of the children are not mobile, they all enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers, the pretty walkway, and all the butterflies and birds that love it too.
  • PTDC London is delighted to have the use of a customized van for shuttling the children to and from special outings and events. The flexibility allows us to offer the children so much more!
